PM denies hiding numbers of flu cases, information
BANGKOK, June 16 (TNA) -- Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Tuesday reassured the public that the numbers of Thailand’s confirmed A(H1N1) flu patients and relevant data had not been hidden or manipulated by the authorities.

The prime minister said the Public Health Ministry will continue to report information regarding the numbers of confirmed Influenza Type A (H1N1) cases and other relevant facts with transparency.

Mr. Abhisit spoke with journalists after discussing Thailand’s current H1N1 virus situation with Minister of Public Health Witthaya Kaewparadai.

The premier expressed confidence that the public will not panic in response to the announcements of increasing numbers of flu patients.

The public needs to know the current flu situation and the seriousness of the outbreak in the country, Mr. Abhisit affirmed.

Still, he also said the government neither had a plan to step up preventive measures to the level of temporary border closures, nor to limit cross-border and international travel.

The health ministry on Tuesday confirmed a further 109 influenza cases, raising Thailand’s total numbers to 310. No fatalities were reported. (TNA)
