BANGKOK, Nov 18 (TNA) – Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health on Wednesday confirmed one additional death from Influenza Type A(H1N1), bringing the country’s total death toll to 185.
In a weekly report on the A(H1N1) flu situation in the country from November 11-18, Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai reported only one new fatality. Mr Witthaya added that high-risk groups of A(H1N1) virus were people who had chronic diseases as well as obesity. Currently, the spread of the outbreak in schools has declined due to an effective screening process, while the virus increasingly spreads among local communities, the minister said, adding that the majority of the mounting cases of transmission of the A(H1N1) flu were found in the central part of the country and in the vicinity of Bangkok.
Regarding progress in producing anti-flu vaccines, Dr Vichai Chokewiwat, chair of the Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO), said that the vaccine’s stability was able to be solved.
Health workers are waiting for result from the animal vaccine trials against the virus, which is scheduled to be confirmed on November 25. Later the human vaccine test is expected to begin in December, said Dr Vichai. Regarding a report about the death of vaccinated people in foreign countries, Dr Vichai explained that health authorities have closely studied the causes of death. They will later determine whether the victims died of the vaccine or other related factors, said Dr Vichai. (TNA)
