SATUN, Nov 24 (TNA) – Flooding situation in Thailand’s southern provinces is still worrisome, despite the gradual subsidence of floodwaters in Songkhla.
Satun municipality is experiencing critical flooding as waters from the northern portion of the province have overflowed into many areas including government offices and housing.
Floodwaters in some parts of the provincial seat is some two metres deep.
Meanwhile, army personnel at a military base here used boats to evacuate to higher ground where the after one metre of water inundated the base and was still rising rapidly.
In the southern province of Songkhla, the water level in the U-tapao and Ror-I canals has gradually receded.
However, Hat Yai municipal officials put yellow flags to warn the public about the flooding situation.
Meanwhile, some local schools resumed teaching activities Tuesday after about 100 schools were closed on Monday.
Schools still closed due to the flood are cleaning classrooms and compounds to prepare for reopening classes.
In Narathiwat, 13 districts have been hit by flood during November 16-22, with four of them in critical condition including Sungai Kolok, Rangae, Wang and Sukhirin.
Water in rivers spilled over their banks for six days due to the flash flood from Sangalakiri mountain range. Local residents must use boats for transport.
The regional flood response centre reported that 103 roads were under water, and some 62,000 residents have been affected, with nearly three thousand evacuated to safer areas. (TNA)
