PM says grand celebrations will honour King's birthday

BANGKOK, Nov 29 (TNA) -- Grand celebrations will be held throughout Thailand between December 2 to13 to celebrate the 82nd birthday of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Sunday.

The beloved King will celebrate his birthday on Saturday.

Mr. Abhisit said during his weekly television and radio address that the public and private sector have joined together to organise several activities to celebrate the king’s birthday.

On Wednesday, people of five religions will hold merit making rites in Wang Nam Kiew district of the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Government civil servants nationwide will participate in oath of allegiance ceremonies from December 3 through 13 while many fun-filled programmes will be held at Bangkok’s Sanam Luang and Royal Plaza, Mr. Abhisit said. Light and sound displays will take place at Rajadamnoen Klang Avenue.

A survey, conducted by Assumption University’s ABAC Poll on Saturday of 1,380 households in17 provinces nationwide on happiness of Thais, found that out of a possible 10 points, up to 9.14 points were registered as Thais are very happy that the King’s birthday is approaching. (TNA)
