BANGKOK, Feb 21 (TNA) – Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama left Bangkok Thursday for a two-day official visit to Laos and talks with senior Laotian officials, aimed at strengthening relations between the two Mekong River neighbour countries.
Mr. Noppadon's visit to Laos, his first since being appointed foreign minister, would give him an opportunity to follow-up development projects jointly carried out by the two countries.
On Friday, he is scheduled to confer with his Laotian counterpart Thaongloun Sisoulith, also deputy prime minister, on several issues including a joint survey on making demarcation on the common border, measures to prevent illegal entry, trade and investment promotion, and development of transportation systems.
Other major issues to be discussed at the meeting include the Greater Mekong Sub-region and the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), a cooperation framework joining Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to utilise member countries' diverse strengths and to promote balanced development in the sub-region.
Mr. Noppadon is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh and President Choumaly Sayasone, and meet Thai businessmen in Laos before returning home late Friday. (TNA)--E111
