WASHINGTON, March 21 (Itar-Tass) -- Thailand's Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama said on Thursday it may take his country a year to consider the case of Russian businessman Viktor Bout dubbed as "Merchant of Death", who was arrested in Thailand on a US warrant on charges of illegal arms trafficking.
Pattama, who discussed Bout's case with US Attorney General Michael Mukasey, told Tass on Thursday the US side "filed no extradition requests, and the Attorney General simply said he would like to see Mr. Bout in the United States."
Pattama responded it might take a year to complete all the legal formalities of the case.
US federal authorities unsealed a criminal complaint charging that Bout, 41, conspired to sell millions of dollars worth of weapons, including 100 surface-to-air missiles and armor-piercing rockets, to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) that have been fighting Colombia's government for more than four decades.(Itar-tass)
