BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) - The happiness index for people living in metropolitan Bangkok declined 1.76 per cent in April from the first quarter this year in response to concerns regarding the quality of life and the safety of property, the rising cost of living, and job achievement, according to a new poll in the Thai capital. Conducted by the Thurakij Bundit University Poll, the survey queried 1,089 persons living throughout Bangkok, finding that the happiness index in April was at 3.35, down from 3.41 in the first quarter of this year. The maximum level of the index stands at 5. The major reasons for the decline were attributed to worries over life and property which fell 5.28 per cent, having sufficient ready cash in hand for use in daily life dropped 4.42 per cent, job success retreated 4.33 per cent, and understanding among members in the family declined 1.67 per cent, according to the poll. Positive thinking -- thinking and doing things in a positive way -- gained in the poll, rising 0.55 per cent, it said, the only category that showed improvement. The happiness index for Bangkok people in all occupations fell, except for civil servants and state enterprise workers, which rose 1.5 per cent, said the poll, presumably due to the new, elected government taking office.
