Thai PM to attend 3rd ACMECS summit in Vietnam during November 6-7

BANGKOK, Nov 4 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat will attend the third Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) summit in Hanoi Thursday and Friday November 6-7.

ACMECS, initiated by Thailand, is a cooperation framework among Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam to utilise member countries' diverse strengths and to promote balanced development in the sub-region.
 
The 3rd ACMECS summit was expected to strengthen cooperation among the members countries in seven areas including trade and investment facilitation; agriculture, industry and energy; transportation network; tourism; human resource development; and health care development.

The prime minister and his entourage including PM's secretary general Chusak Sirinil and National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) secretary-general Amphon Kitiampon will leave Bangkok at 3 pm Thursday and arrive at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi in time for a working dinner with the sub-region's leaders.

On Friday the prime minister and other four other national leaders will meet for a summit and will later endorse the leaders's joint declaration.

PM Somchai and the riverine countries' leaders will meet with bussiness leaders before having a courtesy visit with Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will host a banquet to honour the ACMECS leaders on Friday, and the Thai delegation will leave Hanoi later in the evening, expected at Bangkok before midnight. (TNA)
