BANGKOK, Jan 4 (TNA) – Thailand's Election Commission (EC) dismissed a complaint against Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva over a draft dodging allegation, according to EC member Praphan Naikovit.
Mr. Praphan said the Commission had considered the complaint, filed by an anti-government activist group, to disqualify the prime minister due to his allegedly avoiding military service by conscription.
The elections agency said the issue of mandatory military service was not address in Thailand's election law, so the prime minister's qualifications as an MP and the status of his premiership is not at issue, and is not void.
However, the status of a member of parliament MP will be terminated if a person goes to prison or is sacked from his or her government post due to corruption, Mr. Praphan said.
He added that the EC dismissed the case and wouldn't forward the complaint to the Constitution Court for consideration. (TNA)
