Six soldiers wounded in Yala bombing

YALA, Feb 18 (TNA) - Six army soldiers were seriously wounded in a bombing at a village in Yala's Krong Penang district on Wednesday, police said.
 
Wounded in the incident were an officer, two non-commissioned officers and three privates.

According to preliminary investigations, suspected insurgents set a motorcycle on fire at Baan Bae Jaeng village in Krong Penang district, to draw security officials to the scene. An explosive device of undetermined size was detonated when the soldier arrived.

The wounded men were evacuated to Yala Hospital for treatment.

They were identified as Capt. Songwat Saengseesod, 49; Sgt. Khachawut Samjai, 31; Sgt-Maj. Sombat Permpoon, 49;  Pvt. Withawat Panyoyai, 21; Pvt. Panatchai Hanu-amornnand, 29; and Pvt. Sila Inta, 23.

Some village residents had earlier been attacked in a nearby wooded area during the night, according to police.(TNA)
