PATTANI, March 19 (TNA) - Four Thai army rangers were killed in a bombing Thursday in the insurgency-torn southern border province of Pattani. A pick-up truck carrying the four rangers was returning to base in Kapho district from an annual health check-up in nearby Yala province when the bomb was detonated. All four troopers were killed instantly and their truck was totally destroyed. Initial investigations by a provincial bomb squad determined that a homemade bomb had been buried beneath the road surface and was manually detonated as the rangers' vehicle passed by. Security personnel sealed off the area and were searching for the presumed insurgents. More than 3,500 people have died in the insurgency since it resumed in 2004. (TNA)
