BANGKOK, March 20 (TNA) - Thailand’s red-shirted anti-government protesters, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), said their mass rally set to begin next Thursday at Sanam Luang before the protesters march to seal off Government House will be extended indefinitely, according to UDD core leader Jatuporn Prompan. Mr. Jatuporn, an Opposition Puea Thai member of parliament, said the move was aimed at ousting the current Democrat-led government and a substantial number of participants is expected to attend. However, Mr. Jatuporn said it was not decided whether former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra would give his usual telephoned address during the demonstration, planning with Thaksin is still going on. Mr. Jatuporn asserted the UDD Red Shirt protesters are unfazed by Army Chief Gen. Anupong Paochinda’s call for people’s help to curb the UDD’s movements. Gen. Anupong is not fair in his response to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s having dodged military conscription or the issue of prosecution of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), but deploy a huge number of military officers to threaten the Red Shirted protesters, Mr. Jatuporn said. Meanwhile, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office Sathit Wong-nongtoei said the UDD protest to be prolonged beyond March 26 could take place as long as it remains peaceful and complies with the law. Mr. Sathit said the group must not vandalise the compound or cause any violence. He noted the Puea Thai Party MPs have been carrying out their roles in censuring the government through parliamentary practices, but the UDD’s moves outside Parliament have been more aggressive, judging from its previous rally.
