BANGKOK, May 1 (TNA) - Ministry of Public Health’s Influenza Control Centre concluded that the new name ‘New Influenza 2009’ will be used instead of the current swine flu virus, as it is not transmitted from pigs, according to Deputy Permanent Secretary Paichit Varachit.
Dr. Paichit said after the meeting to lay out measures to prevent and control the influenza the World Health Orgainization (WHO) agreed to adopt the name influenza A (H1N1).
Meanwhile, a total of 18 Thais living in Mexico expressed their wish to return to Thailand. The Ministry of Public Health has set up a team to inspect their health status.
Dr. Paichit said that the Thais living in Mexico, including exchange students and volunteers, will arrive in Bangkok on Sunday.
The ministry will dispatch a medical team to determine their state of health, with an ambulance on standby in case any are suspected of having symptoms of the New Influenza 2009. In such a case the patient would be quarantined.
The returning Thais will be asked to monitor their condition for two weeks and report to the Public Health Ministry daily. (TNA)
